Hi,
My husband and I are relocating to Miami and are thinking of moving to the Kendall/Pinecrest area around 112th and route US1. I work downtown (biscayne and 395) and he is a law student at the FIU south campus.

We want to know what the commute will be like for both of us. I know I can take the metrorail to work, but what about the busway on route 1? Does it go all the way up to downtown? I'd much rather not have to transfer to the metrorail if the bus will take me there all the way. Also, how long will it take to get there?

What will the commute going West be like for him to FIU? What's the best route to take for him?

Thanks!

The bus way ends/starts at the Metrorail station at Dadeland. So you would have to transfer to the Metrorail.

There are a few ways he could get to the FIU campus. One would be to take Killian Parkway (112 ST/104St) or Kendall Drive west to 117 Ave, and take that north to FIU. Or catch the Palmetto north just north of 104 St on US1, to 836 west. There are other side streets that he could take, but these are the easiest. Depending on the time of day these roads can be a mess...

Going west is probably not so bad... Going North may be a bit worse...

You should consider moving more north than Killian and US1... It will be a day to day struggle with traffic.

Why don't you look into South Miami around UM/72nd Sunset Avenue. You can look around on the southeast side of US1. I can tell you from my own experience that getting to FIU was really easy because I was always going against traffic. you will have traffic no matter what but if you can be somewhere near Metrorail it will be possible to commute at least by the M. I think this are would be the most efficient if you want public transport and he wants easy access to FIU.
