DJ Laz is soooo corny to me.... he always seems fake and is a bad actor....
like overly-animated and machismo..... it comes off as disingenuous.

I've met him several times. Never came off like that to me. Must be part of the "DJ Laz" persona he plays

In my opinion, pre-1998 Power 96 ruled.

From 1998-2001, many of the station's best jocks began jumping ship. Dimas Martinez and Joe Nasty left. Tony the Tiger got promoted to APD in 1998 and I believe that marked the end of his days on the air. In 2001, the morning crew (Felix Sama, Bo Griffin, Tyrone, etc.) was fired due to bad ratings. I think Power and Cox on the Radio also parted ways that year. And, like Tony the Tiger, Kid Curry hung up his jock hat and focused on programming.

Power then hired a slew of new talent, including Al B. Sylk, Baby Brie, and Lucy Lopez. I could never quite get into the shows hosted by these people. I feel they lacked the charisma that guys like Kid Curry, Cox, and Tony the Tiger brought to the airwaves.

I think the station began its trajectory toward urban as early as the late 90s. It was at that point that dance began falling by the wayside and hip hop started taking center stage.
