I've been away a week for Thanksgiving and have heard that Alton is now open to two way traffic again in South Beach. Is it true?

djmanu - I don't believe they have put down the final "wear" layer of asphalt. I don't believe because most of the manhole covers as well as most of the concrete curbs as not level with the asphalt. I'm a bit confused as to why they put down what seems to be the final lane markings on the asphalt. I think this project was a huge missed opportunity to remake one of South Beach's main streets. Instead of making the street more welcoming to the pedestrian they've instead placed large diameter traffic signal poles in the middle of sidewalks. Overall the quality of the design and workmanship turned very low for this project.

Roads can only get so pedestrian friendly especially on a main street with a lot of traffic but yea sometimes when they do construction on roads I don't know what they are thinking when they place down random patches to cover holes. I guess they are going to repave it with fresh final layer but who knows I have no clue what the project manager thinks about.

pretty sure no more layers are to be laid. over the years they will lay more as need be so thats why the gutters are higher aswell as the manholes so they arent under in 10-20 yrs time.

What a disappointment to see the terrible way they ruined the look of the overpass without raising it one bit. More money spent to accomplish nothing. Hope you like seeing trucks get stuck there.
