As we all know, Miami is a great place to live yet is plagued with a lot of problems (which is almost a paradox). What can be done to make Miami a more livable city?

Actually it's not a paradox because if it were perfect that would mean it is dead.

Life is movement and risk.

More livable, then, more movement: light commuter rail would top my wish list.

But wishing it is easy. Agreement on actual implementation and how to finance it is very, very hard.

Anyway, we had a thread just like this, what, two weeks ago.

True, but to just mention a few of things:

A real modern and efficient public transportation system with buses, trains, subways
Less suburbia, sprawl and strip malls, more city
More and better paying jobs wouldn't hurt either

Good point, and I agree. That's why I said "almost a paradox". Anyways, I think good ideas have been brought up.

More green space and public parks.
Less strip malls, suburbia and just junk a la Hialeah

Subways will be impossible.

After spending time in NYC and Chicago, I'd say a more robust and interconnected public transport system.

Hialeah has made many improvements, still has a way to go but it is a positive.

Yeap, I agree with you of course, it is impossible, but it would be very nice to have though.

These are all very good points, but how can these ideas actually be implemented? Theorizing about one's own fantasy Miami is great, but at some point, practical actions have to be taken to make reality at least somewhat closer to the ideal.
