I was thinking of moving there from Port St Lucie area.. I've never been there but looked on google street view and the town looks nice.. but then I read it has a very high crime rate? Is that true? what are the nicest areas ?

Homestead is where lower middle class move to when they can't afford homes in the rest of Miami-Dade County. They are building some very nice new affordable homes but it's a very long and expensive commute on toll roads if you need to work in Doral or Downtown Miami.

It could be a good choice if you work in Kendall or Dadeland area or somewhere else in South Miami-Dade.

It's not a destination place. It's a bedroom community to either Miami or the upper keys. The only thing it's got going for it is affordable housing.

kOOp..at the top of this forum there's a sticky where Jacob has posted his "neighborhood meter"....check that...there are plenty of "green" areas in Homestead. It's not all lower middle class...there are plenty of $multi-million homes, farms, and ranches there too. And some very nice areas in the area...golf course communities , etc Keys Gate is one
From the beginning of I-75...to center downtown Miami takes about 1 hour...
North of Homestead and west of US1 is called the Redlands...lots of very expensive homes and properties there

Besides the crime rate, you need to go see for yourself. Do your research. You couldn't pay me to live in Homestead. Well...you couldn't pay me to live back in Miami. Not enough money to even bring me back to Florida!

I have a brother just like you. It sounds like you're not going to be very happy no matter where you live, so I'm going to take your advice with a grain of salt.

I'm thrilled where I live now, LOVE it!!! Been here 8 1 /2 years and haven't looked back once. Feel more at home living here than I did living in Miami for almost 50 years. Very little I miss in Miami, a few friends and a couple old restaurants...family, I get to see when they come visit here. Live and learn grasshopper.

I would love to be lower middle class enough to afford one of those gorgeous farms in Homestead.
