Well, my husband, rather. He has been offered a job in Brickell. I'm not ised to real estate like Miami. It seems he would have to drive at least an hour to work for us to live in a nice home with our baby and dog. Our bidget is most likely 250,000-350,000. It seems as though this price range is non existent. Everything in a decent neighborhood seems to be upwards of 600k or under 200k and a complete mess. Am I missing something? Coral springs seems doable, but that drive!

Sorry about the spelling errors. I am multi-tasking by typing and rocking a baby to sleep.

Coral Springs to Brickell isn't doable on a daily basis for most people. I have known a few people who have done it, but it will be well over an hour if not two in rush hour traffic. You should be able to find a townhouse in your budget in a decent area under an hour from Brickell, you probably will not find a single family home though.

You need to work with a competent realtor. There is boatloads of decent houses in the $300k range well under and hour from Brickell.

Is it gonna be a 9-5 schedule? Coral Springs is very far. if you want to live in Broward Pembroke Pines, Davie and Cooper City are closer.

There's always the Western suburbs but we don pick Inglish hir and traffic is a mess during the rush hour.

Maybe you guys should rent first until you figure out the traffic and how much you can tolerate here.

He is an attorney, so not exactly 9-5. More like, working all the time.we are definitely going to rent first for a few months to get to know the neighborhoods. That being said, if he accepts the offer we would be moving there for good. No moving anywhere else. Even if we can't stand it. So, I need to know the good, bad, and the ugly. A vacation there won't help me much. Attorney's don't just move around (at least good ones) so our decision to move down must be calculated. I really don't want to be cooped up in a townhouse. I also don't want my husband driving four hours a day. Thank you all for the suggestions. I will take everthing into consideration.

Miami is not for everyone.

Since you are coming from MO I still recommend Southern Broward, even if the commute is long. You probably will hate the culture here. I'm just being realistic. Some do fine but the majority of white transplants who can't afford the 500k+ neighborhoods like Pinecrest, Coconut Grove or Coral Gables don't end up liking it here. Those who do usually send their kids to private school and live in their own white/wealthy hispanic bubbles.

I second the Southern Broward recommendation.

I feel like posters are so quick to throw "Broward!" out as a recommendation without also explaining that by choosing to live in Broward and commute to Brickell, the question in your title will be answered. Yes, it will be an hour driving, that's the trade off. Miami-Dade is more Hispanic (a lot more) and more expensive (except for the western suburbs of Broward which can be just as if not more $$$. But! You'd be closer to Brickell and therefore traffic would be less. You guys should rent an apt first or a condo in Miami, to get the feel of South FL - once you've lived here a few months you'll know exactly where you can afford/ want to move to and whether or not Broward is worth it regarding the longer commute.

If you want a single family home in that price range you will have to drive. Sorry to be a downer but that's the way it is going to be. That is a very low price range and the number of decent neighborhoods with SFH in that price range will be limited. There may be some neighborhoods in Hollywood or Pembroke Pines that will work for you. That's closer than Coral Springs but still a drive from Miami.
