Care? I don't think care is in anybody's emotions in Miami. lol If there can be a profit made than the attitude is the hell with everybody else. They should be building those neighborhoods and increasing jobs within the neighborhood, so the people can prosper. That will never happen though.

I'm surprised that Miami took this long to do something like this honestly. Miami is the only nice weather year round beach city in the East coast. Seems like investors would have partaken decades upon decades ago and turned it into a paradise island mainly for the rich.

What are you talking about Miami tried to bring in the Crosswinds Project about 10 years ago that would have been for the middle-class, land that had already been cleared, but was fought and never came to fruition. This would have been big for Miami and no telling what Park West and Overtown would have looked like today.

Gentrifying Downtown Miami | Reimagine!

I wouldn't call Miami Beach exactly for the poor, so I don't know what you are talking about again as they have poured billions of dollars in to the island, the Fountainbleau spent 1-billion dollars to renovate and add-ons to its hotel alone, god only knows what they charge for that place per night. There is Fischer Island where the billionaires live but then it doesn't cater too much to the tourist or locals as you have to take a ferry to get there or did you know this already.

Miami Beach is a top destination for foreigners, especially Europeans due to the exchange rate and its beautiful weather. Miami Beach is a beautiful place where the middle-class and wealthy live

Hey it is a cold cruel world but developers see a chance to make money they will and that is at the cost of gentrifying individuals out of their dwellings. Who knows where the poor end up usually it is the same type dwelling as before or they will rent a room in a person's house.

I would comment on the mentality of the people who live in these run-down areas but I won't because it is not everybody with the same mind set as there are good people as well as bad, hard-working as well as lazy who want to sit on their butts and collect welfare checks.

The only reason developers build in places like Overtown is to take the money and run. They could care less about what mess they leave behind. The stupidity of the blacks in Overtown is disgusting, instead of buying out landlords in down times they just keep reproducing and living like animals. Property owners make a fortune renting slums to the people there and continue to do so until big money is waved in front of them. Areas like Carol City and Richmond Heights where people largely own their own homes are not subject to gentrification, only those areas with apartments or duplexes owned by investors. This happens even in wealthier areas, you can see this in how a profitable higher end office park like Koger Center was replaced by "downtown Doral". The sad thing is that the suckers who buy in places that get gentrified end up losing their investment when the tide of funny money flows out and the thugs see them as an easy target. Smart money would buy a property near the coastline or in an established neighborhood especially after the current real estate bubble bursts.

How many people crying about OT go there now? Just imagine if there was an entertainment district there, safe to go at night, you'd probably go there at night. Maybe Miami can build her own version of Broadway (with Latin talent, now I'd love to go to that!) where residences for poor people once stood.

Let's not kid ourselves - these people are not educable and they won't ever amount to anything but a 5 guys burger flipper (a lot of them are bussed into Miami Beach to work at our 5 guys - why I have no idea).

At least with Little Haiti, I'd not want to completely kill the character of that neighborhood, it has some soul. But it needs to be cleaned up too. People with violent pasts should be bought a one-way ticket out of Miami. I don't care where, just far away from here.
