Imagine Sir Marco Rubio as our Governor-General and Sheriff Scott Israel as Prime Minister (or Premier) I wonder how that would be? Please offer thoughts and theories, etc. below.

This has actually been discussed a few times. The rest of the state would turn solidly republican, and the newly created Miami deep blue. Yeah, that's right, poor Marco would be in the middle of a democratic state and have a very difficult time getting elected. I'm betting you don't believe me, but check recent election returns and you'll see the truth.

(Also, this is never going to happen, too many special interests will simply prevent it)

Canada or the U.K. would lose control of it instantly.

Nobody would be willing to put up with 'new' overlords telling them what they can and can't do.

Why would you want a egotistical failed Presidential candidate like Rubio & soon to be a former Senator also to become a Governor of the new state of South Florida ?

Rubio barely got elected to the Senate too.

Only the Russians would have a chance. The new headquarters would be in Hollywood.

Someone needs to put down the pipe and return to reality.

Oh, bull. He's a career politician, he would change party, ideology and rhetoric on a dime, nobody would notice the difference, and he would be elected to something, or go into private practice and become a lobbyist for whoever has money, as long as it's green, the only party that matters; red or blue doesn't.

Anyway, agree here. After relatively few years of history and obscurity, Florida is finally becoming one of the most important states (in the top three already by population, I believe), so why would the top politicians, whatever color, shoot themselves in the foot now? Don't see it happening in the foreseeable future and I would certainly vote against it.

Governor-General means that the or she is representative of the Queen. This means that they have no real power, since the only real power would be in a Premier (Prime minister). In other words, the Governor-Genral is a Viceroy (representative of the Queen)
