I am flying into FLL soon as a tourist for the first time. I have about a week to spend in the area. I will rent a car from airport with unlimited mileage and I don't mind driving.

Looking for suggestions related to:

hotel (specially those that might have a kitchenette),
vegan restaurants,
eateries,
things to do,
things not to do,
parking
things to be wary about (scams etc.)

for Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Keywest areas. The goal of this trip is to scout out these areas and identify spot or spots where I can return every year.

Hope to spend a lot of time on the beach. Love to hear the sound of water. Also love boat rides, sunrises and sunsets. I will have teenagers with me.

Key West is over 100 miles from Miami and most of that is 2 lane road with lower speeds.... so plan accordingly... It not a quick drive through the Keys. Many first time visitors to Florida underestimate distances in Florida

I like Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys. One of the few sandy beaches in the Keys most of the keys beaches are limestone, so get some water shoes, not flip flops if you plan to wade in water, you can cut your feet really badly. I also like being able to walk on the old bridge there. If you are so inclined there are also camp sites there for a future trip.

My favorite attractions in the Miami area are:

Fairchild Tropical Garden
South Beach Art Deco District in Miami Beach (don't Miss Lincoln Road)
Coconut Grove
Vizcaya
Downtown Miami skyline
