I'm going to be visiting Miami for a campus visit this week, what are the areas to avoid. Should I be worried on my way there? I hear these horrible things about the surrounding areas of Miami and I really don't want to get jumped, mugged or shot =p. I am from Michigan so I don't know too much about the bad areas..

Miami is like Detroit. Act like your walking the streets of Detroit and you'll be fine.

If you're visiting campus, you'll be just fine. Just use common sense. Miami is much less dangerous than Detroit or St. Louis. I can't think of any reason you'd have to be in the bad areas (Hialeah, Liberty City, etc.) anyway. Coral Gables and the area immediately surrounding is super nice, so you'll have no problems whatsoever! Enjoy your visit.

Just don't get off the highway in central PBC from Riviera Beach to Boynton (with exceptions), the west bound Sunrise Blvd exit in Ft. Lauderdale (at night), or anywhere south of the Golden Glades and you will be fine. And your a "Burgler" anyway so I think you would be fine .

If you're going to UM just take I-95 all the way to the end and then follow US1 for a short distance to UM. Its easy.

Miami street crime is not THAT bad, it tends to be located east of the 826, west of I-95 north of the Miami River. Of course you could be a victim anywhere in the USA.

I wouldn't even say that about Weston...crime can happen anywhere. The most I could ever say about any place with a human population is "your chances of having a problem are pretty low".
