We're planning to visit Florida during Memorial Weekend for some relaxation on the beach and enjoyment of great food. I'll be taking my wife and baby. Is Miami ok? We are in our mid 30s so I'd like a balance of things to do along with some calm places to relax. Ideally something similar to Waikiki beach for strolling and then not so crowded beaches like the North Shore of Oahu.

On Memorial Day Weekend? NO. Miami is very dangerous, especially the beach on that weekend and it's the opposite of relaxed. Many stores close their doors for the weekend, locals leave, etc.

I don't think any beach will be relaxed on Memorial Day weekend around here. But if you want something more relaxed and walkable, in general, consider Hollywood Beach.

You'll be fine if you avoid South Beach. Depending on your budget, head for Key Biscayne, Fisher Island, or Bay Harbor.

South Beach does host "Urban Beach Week" at that time. Which definitely makes South Beach not family friendly, as mobs of people head down from NY, DC, and elsewhere to party like there's no tomorrow. Memorial Day In Miami

But I don't think it is really dangerous either. There's usually a problem or two (which have included a few murders) but they're late at night, when folks have been drinking etc. and that's not really when you'd be out anyway.

I've been there during that week before, and while it's DEFINITELY not my scene, I didn't feel at all unsafe

(And rarely do I agree with BNBR)

You probably won't be able to find any parking on Hollywood beach on Memorial day.

I suggest Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Or Delray Beach.

I wouldn't just go saying "Miami is very dangerous"

Miami is totally fine.

But on Memorial Day Weekend? Stay away.

Holiday weekends and "calm" don't go together in South Florida IMO.

I had this impression. Why is South Florida such a party scene during Holidays?

Most tourist destinations are busiest over holiday weekends.
