108 rounds fired on Palmetto Expressway by shooting suspect, cops say | Miami Herald If someone like this starts shooting up Sunpass equipment instead he might be a folk hero instead of a terrorist.

The Presstitutes have nothing to say about this and I see no protests. Are Miami residents really that docile and willing to be pick pocketed yet again? Are they ready for the horrible accidents that will come from frustrated drivers weaving in and out of toll lanes?
More likely as not the would-be protestors are all used to FDOT and MDX shoving this kind of crap in our faces without listening to us. Or fake-listening to "public input" only after all the important decisions have been made in a dark smokey office somewhere. Eventually people just give up and vote with their feet-either to Broward, Orlando, Okeechobee, or else out of state. The brain drain, as it's been called.

P.S. Crashes, not accidents. Pretty hard to call it an "accident" if someone's stupid enough to drive across those matchsticks into 70 mph traffic!

Metro area of 2M vs 5M. As cities get larger, highways just don't scale as well no matter what you do. Otherwise LA should have the most free flowing traffic in the country.

So, they spent half a billion on the 836/826 interchange but forgot to have a direct connection for the express lanes.

It is a recipe for congestion: southbound traffic looking to take SR 836 will have to exit the express lanes at NW 25 street and cross 4 lanes to get on the exit ramp.

Same will happen with northbound traffic coming from the Dolphin expressway. With the added horror that is having both north and south 826 exits merged into one. So you get the Palmetto exit blocked even if there is no traffic in your direction. And then you have to negotiate with several lanes to get to the express lanes.

On the other end, connection with I75 is seamless and gets you directly from one express lane to the other.

By the way, another part of this project is the addition of ... ramp signalling on all entrances

Have you seen the 595 during rush hour?

This is false. They aren't adding any lanes to the expressway. They are adding a toll to existing lanes.

This is literally highway robbery.

Are you sure about that?

The project website is ambiguous at best, simply stating that express lanes "will be added" without defining exactly what that means. It also states that there will be "moderate widening" of the Palmetto mainline, but doesn't address what that means in terms of lanes.

Project Information | Project Information

I did, however, find an old news report from Channel 6 in 2013 stating that one new lane would be added to the Palmetto for an express lane and one lane of the mainline would be converted, leaving 2 express lanes and 4 regular lanes.

Express Lanes Coming Soon to the Palmetto Expressway and Interstate 75 | NBC 6 South Florida

That tv report said that it was a four-year project with construction due to begin in 2014, so perhaps a lane has already been added with the intent all along for it to be converted to an express lane in 2017 or 2018. I'm rarely if ever on the Palmetto north of 836 so I may be completely off-the-wall with all of this speculation. I freely admit that I have no idea what the Palmetto looks like up there or what (if any) construction has taken place since 2014.
