I totally agree. Summer is the wrong time to visit Florida. Our low season is in the summer because people don't usually come to Florida because its hot, humid and rainy then.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it. It can be difficult to get a grasp on what a place is like without asking real people.
Coming from a maritime climate in Ireland, it probably would be pretty uncomfortable for us. Still looks like beautiful part of the country though!!

Will get deciding!

I would definitely recommend spending the summer in Miami. Three months there, assuming you have access to a car and have the opportunity to travel a fair bit in Florida and some of the neighboring states in the SE, will give you a very good picture of a huge slice of America. It'll definitely be something different from California - in good ways and bad. Even though summer is the low season in Florida, there will still be a lot going on to make it a fun time.

That being said, if climate is a big deal for you, you could have a great time living in other cities further north as well.

It may certainly give you a run for the money in terms of being green. Miami in August is the greenest place I've ever seen.

these guys offering you their toxic opinions about a three month stay in miami are very negative in general on this bbs and probably in life as well. I would take their views with a bit more than a grain of salt.

if I were you I would come here, secure lodgings on the beach and solicit work as a valet at one the posh hotels. you will have no end of access to fun and pretty things of all sorts while working an eight hour shift. you will meet hordes of people your age while on the job and be well compensated for jogging. you may then exploit your new contacts and earnings in some great adventures in paradise. that's exactly what I did and it was a blast.

I hope you decide to come, I think you'll be glad you did.
