Hi there, I just recently signed up on this forum. Read a few threads, lots of great information.

I have a question about the Information Technology field in Ft lauderdale and miami area. Anyone in the field can you tell me if there is alot of opportunity in terms of jobs? I have family that are in the pembroke pines area, I've been to florida 3 times now. I love the city and weather.

Thanks for your input

** this is what I asked, and for some strange reason, its posted 2 times**

Right now, I'm in my 2nd year of working full time as a Helpdesk Support Specialist. Sorry I should have made it more clear. I see all IT people are alike, surfing the net while working.

Ah okay

the job market here is OK. the jobs pay ummm well they under pay in many areas. You can find some decent paying jobs if you look hard enough. I have not looked at the private sector jobs in some time for south florida. Not sure how that is looking but public sector is decent. If you can get a job with one of the cities you can make some serious bread.

Also look at the universities. University of Miami always seems to have a tech job or two open and they pay decent. Maybe someone familiar with private sector and chime in. I refuse to EVER go back to private sector so I don't follow those types of jobs much.

As for what I do at work

double screen, "work" is on one side and on the other is my "non work" related stuffs :P perk of working in this field for sure!

Thanks for the response, I'm a Canadian citizen so I'm afraid I will have to get a company to sponsor me for a work visa. My contract for my current job is ending in november. Toronto is a great city when it comes to anything I.T related.

Ummmm

they have SOME big companies but the economy is not doing good right now. Things get worse (they will) you could find yourself on the unemployment line. City, State and University jobs are pretty safe unless things get REALLY bad, then no one is safe.
