Woman pistol-whipped during armed robbery in Miami Beach, police say

Robbery captured on surveillance video on Collins Avenue

November 16, 2017

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A woman was pistol-whipped several times in the back of the head during an armed robbery this week in Miami Beach, authorities said.

The robbery was reported about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 1900 block of Collins Avenue.

According to an incident report, an officer responded to the Sultan Mediterranean restaurant and found the victim inside, bleeding profusely from the back of her head and crying hysterically.

Police said the 24-year-old victim said she was walking down the sidewalk by herself when a black male wearing dark clothing approached her from across the street.

Police said surveillance video showed the robber repeatedly striking the victim in the back of her head with a handgun, saying "Give me your s***."

Those stupid Miami Beach cameras are a joke. Not even able to identify neither a face nor a tag. But when it comes for charging for traffic violations they do invest in high-end quality cameras. How ironic. On the other hand, I think Miami Beach became a cockpit. I think people are switching downtown Miami and Coconut Grove to hang out instead.

You are usually too cynical even for me, but in this case I agree with you: electronic traffic surveillance cameras are grossly unfair, possibly even unconstitutional, unless and until cars are equally automatic and digitalized, responding like clockwork to automated and digitalized traffic signals.

Yes, 1:40AM is a sketchy time to be walking outside alone, but most likely she didn't deserve that.

Wishing her a speedy recovery and that law enforcement people can lock that guy up.

Good Luck!

And what if he has an extensive juvenile record? (which is not accessible to the public)

And what if a more=vigilant society had identified him at an earlier age? and placed him on a public-"**** list"? [[

And if, with no improvement, at age 16 or so, he had been sent to a place where he couldn't get out and liquor, drugs and lawyers -- especially liberal lawyers, couldn't get in? And a Billy-Bob-with a-cattle-prod was ready and waiting to "persuade" him that his only choices were either to accept complete subjugation -- or dig himself a deeper hole?

Harsh? a Hell on earth? Perhaps -- but what's in place right now surely isn't working!

How do the red light violations caught by camera work in FL??.....in CA, if you received a citation via mail and ignored it, it would most likely be dismissed /not enforced since you did not sign a ticket acknowledging you agreed to show up in court which is the case when an actual police officer pulls you over at the time of infraction...the onus was then out on the Sherriff department to follow up and serve you in person, which they very rarely ever did...does FL handle this differently?

Good question.

Via some private monitoring company, the municipality or county sends a citation with fine in the mail. There are instructions for contesting it. Not sure what would happen if victim ignores it, but the citations includes various threats.
