Hello. Going to hit the beach with some relatives soon. Will probably want to hit three beaches over the course of three days. Not looking to get a hotel or anything. Just public (or inexpensive) beaches where we can park, hit the beach for 4-6 hours, and then head home. When I say "South Florida," I'm including Sarasota, Tampa, and other places on the southwestern side of the peninsula. I'm also willing to drive south of Miami (assuming there are any real beaches that way).

Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'm assuming that South Beach is the best one. We'll probably go there for obvious reasons. But I would like to hit some other spots too. I heard the beaches on the southwestern side of the peninsula are really nice.

I just want some suggestions (here, there, everywhere). Just the best spots based on your experience given the criteria listed above. Thanks again!

I like Cape Florida, Bill Baggs. You can visit the lighthouse for free on certain days and times. Beautiful views from up there. You can also see the lighthouse keeper's house. You can snorkel a bit by the rocks and then head for a bite to eat at Boater's Grill at No Name Harbor. I only go during the week so I don't deal with crowds. Reminds me of the more laid back times of old Miami before it all started going upscale.

We're actually looking for something that is more sandy and less rocky. Want more of the traditional beach experience.

The beach is sandy. There is just a rocky outcropping dividing the beach from the lighthouse area and fish like it there.

South Beach #1 by far. Maybe Anna Maria Island is #2 near Sarasota. Nothing in FL Keys compares. Key Biscayne (Bill Bagg ) is just so -so compared to the sand/ocean/waves/size of South Beach.

The answer to your question is pretty clear based on responses, so why are you trying to find different answers? lol
