it's nothing surprising at all, Miami just doesn't have what Amazon wanted. NYC and DC? typical that they would split it up between them + Nashville is getting 5,000 jobs as well. Give it another couple of years and some other big company will do the same thing and then a year after will locate the HQ's in the same cities Amazon chose

Probably better off..$2B in taxes breaks for Amazon in NYC..the last thing Miami needs is subsiding more billionaires!

Offering an area with lower tax rates is one thing to attract business, but to give billions to a company worth $1T is ridiculous.

I'm sure Amazon knew exactly where they were going before this competition. It was a way to milk $$$$ out of where they already wanted their HQ's to be. Worked out very well for them.

Plus free advertising and hype, not that they were in dire need, but more never hurts.

I'm a little bit disappointed with their choices. They should have picked Detroit and Baltimore.

I think Bezos wanted to have an excuse to be near the Hamptons and be near DC for political reasons.

The city they chose needed to be desirable in order to get skilled people to want to live and work there. So choosing a dump nobody wants to live in would have created a employee shortage. Likewise, they needed an area with a skilled labor force in that field. So cities like Detroit or Jackson would not work.

Exactly, so now he can lobby for whatever he wants and can build a powerhouse that's right at the doorstep of the most powerful city and create his little empire. He does want to monopolise everything as well.

I think we're past 'little' by now? Richest man in the world, one of the richest companies in the world, single handledly ended book stores and now ending stores like BestBuy...now they are in real estate selling homes with Alexa already built in throughout the house which get people hooked and can't live with out.

Only way to stop them is Anti-Trust/regulations..otherwise, they'll be #1 soon enough..
