I live in Kendale Lakes and currently work in South Miami -- a distance of roughly 8.2 miles.

My morning commute during the school year is anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes, depending on rain, accidents, and so forth. The evening commute is roughly 50-60 minutes.

Just how much worse would it get if I worked in the Brickell/downtown area? Am I looking at a 2-hour drive?

Every now and then, a decent-sounding job opportunity in that area pops up, but I don't know if it's even worth it to apply.

Given where I live, should I stick to opportunities in Kendall, Doral, South Miami, and maybe Coral Gables to avoid a hellish commute?

Hadn't thought about it, but would that mean I'd have to park my car somewhere near the station? Do they allow you to keep your car parked there all day?

If I had the choice, I would rather drive to and fro.

Yes, there is a parking garage connected to the station. Just a suggestion. Some people prefer driving, some people would rather take metrorail.

Uber (or Uber Pool) there in the morning. Should be pretty cheap if you don't want to leave your car. Takes you right into the heart of Brickell, no need to suffer through a commute.

Regarding time, I don't think it would be more than 75 minutes anywhere in Miami. I did what I Think were the two worse commutes - From Aventura to Coral Gables in the morning (1 hour to 1hour 10 mins) and Miami Beach to Doral BEFORE the dolphin added some new exits/removed the toll booths around 27th ave. That was over an hour every day. My wife would commute to Homestead from Miami Beach and would still be around 1 hour 10 mins. I don't see anything taking 2 hours in Miami-Dade County.

I have family that have the same commute and 1.5 hr plus is pretty common, obviously the time of day matters but at least for me I would do the full drive somedays and other days park at a metrorail station and take the train, basically just change it up as doing that drive every day would drive me insane,I mean just going from US1 to west kendall is a nightmare by itself.

Park your car at the Dadeland North Metrorail station garage and take the train downtown unless you enjoy sitting in traffic.
The train takes about 20-25 minutes to get downtown from there.
