Meh. It certainly depends on the city. I wouldn’t call DCs subway system a dump and it’s more convenient to have alternative options in the actual district than just a car.

The weather in Miami is not for being waiting almost 1 hour for the bus at any bus stop. Greater Miami is mostly compound by large residential neighborhoods where most of people have to walk more than 10 blocks to any main road to board a mass transportation bus. There are many jobs and professions in Miami and south Florida that can not be achieved if the person in matter does not have a car. Imagine just for a moment a Real State agent that is very busy with 2 different customer/buyers that each one want to view 4 different properties located in distant areas from each one. If you dont want to drive a car because you dont have the money to pay for it and the insurance, then stay in NYC. Miami has not to be like NYC and it will never be.
