Do you know which part of Aisa were they from? Kazakhstan? Uzbekistan? Turkmenistan? Afganistan? Pakistan? Kyrgyzstan? Bangladesh? India?

In UK newspapers when imigrants from any of the '-stans' riot or assault others, they always refer to them as "Asian youths". To me that puts the wrong image in people's minds, although it is technically correct.
An example: BBC NEWS | England | London | Priest hurt in faith-hate attack

In Britain, "Asian" is geographic and refers primarily to South Asians. Though East Asians are called "Asian" as well, most people in Britain THINK of South Asians when "Asian" is mentioned because there are a lot more South Asians there (due to British colonialism in South Asia) than East Asians.

Here, "Asian" is racial and refers to East Asians. Caucasians from India, Pakistan, etc. are usually labeled by their country of origin or just called "South Asian."

By the way, there are quite a few East Asians and South Asians around Tamiami Park due to FIU's presence there (I imagine).

AFAIK, Indians (from southern Asia) are considered to be Asians as well in America, and some scientists do/did see them as belonging to a separate race. You know how racial classifications come up in different versions.
