I am going to need to live in Miami for approximately 3 months. I won't have a car while I'm there.

Would appreciate advice on safe areas to live where short term rentals are available. I would also need to be able to get to the downtown Miami area fairly easily on public transportation.

Thanks

What is your budget for rent?

As I'm only going to be there for about 3 months, I'm not too concerned about the rent - I was thinking of somewhere between $1500 - 2000 - I know that you pay a premium for a furnished short term rental. I'm willing to make do with a studio but if a nice 1 bedroom comes along, I'd be more than OK with that!

My main concern is not knowing the neighborhoods - I'm sure there are short term rentals in areas that I shouldn't be hanging out in.....

I would live downtown (where I live) if you are only going to be here for 3 months. It's centrally located. Brickell is centrally located as well but is pricier, if nicer.

Thanks - many downtown neighborhoods can be sketchy so good to know that Miami's is OK.

Avoid downtown like the plague.

Downtown Miami is very sketchy in places, like around Miami Ave. Just north and west of the city there are housing projects galore. You don't want to be near that. Downtown is improving and it's fine if you get to know the terrain and are young and adventurous, but that doesn't help a person who is here only for a few months.

For OP I'd recommend a shoebox in Brickell over a penthouse Downtown. Brickell has 3 Publix grocery stores, lots of street life, and you won't be dodging bums and crackheads.

Looks like I'm going to be there for 6 months so hopefully being able to sign a 6 month lease might give me more options.

I am going to try & come and check out some areas first given the number of scams going on.

Hire a realtor, it will not cost you anything. In Miami you need a realtor for a rental.

Live in Brickell.
