Could just call them semi-auto rifles, you don't even have to say "long", as all rifles are long-barreled firearms. The only differentiating factor would be whether it's semi-auto or full-auto, in which case if it was full-auto the term "assault rifle" would be appropriate (though most cases it isn't, agree with you there).

If the precise type of firearm is not clear, but it is obvious it wasn't a handgun, they could be called "long guns" to differentiate. Though that term is more vague and could apply to just about anything that isn't a pistol.

Somehow this shooting seemed a lot more professional than your average drive by. Miami is becoming a more dangerous place. Shootings pretty much every day, many times the victims are children. The thugs just don't care.
If you don't already have a Florida Concealed Weapons Permit you might want to consider getting one. At least carry pepper spray. Then get some local training on how to use these.

I'm not sure how much a concealed carry would help if you get ambushed. You won't have time to access your gun before you get shot.

That's pretty much what happened here. A lot of the people at this event had guns on them and returned fire, but several got shot or injured before they could defend themselves.

This has all the fingerprints of the Zoe Pound street gang, the largest in Miami with over 10,000 members . In addition to drugs they also require payment from any hip hop star filming, recording or appearing in Miami. Hip hop is THEIR turf and the victims were celebrating a hip hop release album.
As far as the conceal carried handguns go it could very well be that the return fire could have cut the attack short and saved more people from being shot. Just speculation but legal firearms deter about 2 million crimes a year.

Someone messaged me about info on Zoe Pound. Even though they are Miami's largest and possibly the most violent gang many people have never heard of them so I am providing this link.

Aren't they primarily retirees from Boca and Palm Beach looking for something to do?

I think there's other demographics coming in to play

Somehow, these events that sound so fun and festive (concerts, ”house parties”, barbeques, graduation parties) don't always seem like they end up being a ton of fun in the long run.
