Why are hotels so darned expensive down there? Anybody know of any “secrets” to finding more affordable hotels? Thanks for any help

well, news says the Keys is the most expensive destination in the entire country right now

...even the hostel is charging $500-$800 a night

Just get on the internet and search...they are all pretty much booked up too

...if you drive, give yourself plenty of extra time....there were 5 accidents yesterday..all at about the same time...top to bottom...and every one of them had the highway closed

Small island, lots of demand, people looking to spend both last year's unspent and this year's vacation budgets plus any stimulus money, no easy way of increasing hotel capacity, many popular vacation destinations not terribly accessible this year....

I feel fortunate now that we were able to book our summer trips to the mountains back before the big vaccine surge happened because now everyone feels good to go and seems to be chasing a limited number of rooms and rental condos in prime locations.

That’s nothing....I had dinner with friends in Boca last night. I had considered getting a hotel for the night until I noticed the obscene prices: $900 for the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel; $1323 for Boca Raton Resort, and $3500 for JW Turnberry. No thanks, I drank less and drove home afterwards. Establishments trying to make up for last year and some dumb and desperate enough to pay those unsustainable, temporarily inflated prices before returning to normal....I’m almost rooting for a hurricane this summer...almost.

Likewise, glad I booked my air and hotel to CA and NYC in February.

As much as it HURTS driving back from Key West, heck even Key Largo after a full day there, I do it anyways, there is no way I am goinn to WASTE those bucs to sleep one nite. I make it back to SW Miami somehow to home sweet home.

Where the Bed Rest is free and SAFE....

Correcto, they really never have an OFF SEASON there... It's always expensive and then becomes MORE EXPENSIVE when they sock it to YOU.
