Brightline’s Miami To Orlando Rail Line Now Over 75% Complete

"Brightline’s Miami To Orlando rail project just passed another construction milestone, the company told investors last week.

According to the investor brief, construction crews have now completed 75% of the work on the route.

The $2.8B project remains on schedule for substantial completion in late 2022, and is also within budget.

During the month of March there were approximately 1,149 construction workers actively engaged in the buildout of the new route.

The first paying customers are expected to be able to board trains between Miami and Orlando in early 2023.

Brightline also told investors this week that ridership on its existing inter-city rail line is growing extremely fast.

In March 2022 alone, ticket revenue grew 41% compared to February 2022, with ridership up 38%. Revenue and ridership are also 23% and 17% higher than March 2019."

Wow, that’s good news, especially with these escalating gas prices.

Hopefully in the future there will be a Sunrail connection to the MCO airport to make Brightline easier to access from downtown Orlando.

But isn't this still supposed to take like 4 hrs to get from Miami or Orlando?

In 2005, I traveled Amtrak from Miami to Raleigh, and it took us 8 hours to get to Orlando. A 4-hour trip to Orlando appeals to me, especially if I'm not driving.

I think it will take 3 - its not a bullet train but it is supposed to get up to 100MPH in certain spots

If it's less than car travel time of 4 hrs then it makes sense. Closer to 3 would be great

I believe the Brightline trains will go up to at least 125 MPH at the most and they’re talking about raising the speed to 150 MPH. If that’s true, then what that would mean is that trips between Miami and Orlando would take less than two hours to 90 minutes. By 2030, once the Brightline reaches Tampa, Jacksonville, and other points throughout FL, it will change the face of FL the way the Erie Canal changed NY State from another competing state into the preeminent state of the USA from the 1820s to the 1980s, when CA officially surpassed NY, I believe.

It would take 90 minutes if they averaged 150 mph. But it takes the trains a while to get up to full speed, and they have stops in between Miami and Orlando.
