Qantas looking to expand nonstop service to select cities including Miami. Very long flight (18 hours??)…..can Asia be far behind?

This is a huge win for Miami and FL, in general. Australia isn't Asia, but adding Sydney and Melbourne route to Miami would further make the Miami economy much more robust. Plus a Sydney-Miami route would be 9,300 miles in comparison to the Sydney-London route, which is currently 11,000 miles and practically the most important international route for Qantas since both Australia and Great Britain are Commonwealth nations and the Commonwealth is HQed at the Marlbourough House in London. The only other port of entry along the Eastern Seaboard is New York. Either way, this will help Miami and it will also predate a lot of Far East Asian flights from Tokyo, Hong Kong, and even Singapore in the near future!

Very surprised to see this, their other routes for NYC/Chicago make more sense, same with Sao Paulo. But even then, the flight time is brutal, I've done 15H flights from MTL to Tokyo directly and even in business class, it wrecked me. can't imagine the extra few hours, sounds exhausting.

Believe the only nonstops to/from the US today are LAX, SFO, and DFW....either Qantas, United, Virgin and/or American.

Dubai and Doha are currently the longest routes from MIA at a little more than 14 hours.

Makes sense...Miami is finally hitting its stride after all the investment you all made in the city to create this moment...I just hired four here and we could grow to 20 in short order. Miami is an important place for us to plant our flag. We have offices all over the globe, but Miami is one of our most important growth initiatives at the moment.

I'd love to know which company you work for. If it's tech related, the city is going through a lull and hires have slowed down considerably in 2022.

Not tech. We get busier during downturns.

It's only a matter of time before Qantas restores their Chicago and NYC routes as well (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...s_destinations). Not sure if Qantas will restore their routes going into Boston, Dc, and Toronto, but adding Miami will ensure that MIA will have flight service for six continents, yet another feather in Miami's cap! Still, it's only a matter of time before flights to the Far East takes place (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.).

Running long flights is a physical challenge for both the airline and the passengers. From what I've read, Qantas has been conducting a lot of studies to look at the impact of such flights and how to deal with it (sleep cycles, types of food and when to serve them etc.). It's really a new frontier and may take some time to get it right.
