It's funny how after this video, shootings and homicides went up dramatically county wide. You can tell in this video, they used the crime maps, which only shows six months worth of data and sometimes, they don't even report murders and shootings that happened.

Hell there was even a high profile murder-suicide yesterday and the reported planned mass shooting in Miami, which thank God did not happen.

With that said, violent crimes are up 30% in Miami and on a per capita basis, Miami is still one of the most violent major cities in the U.S

According to actual stats, Miami does not even make the top 30 most violent cities in the US. This list does include smaller but also some larger cities:

https://www.populationu.com/gen/most...ties-in-the-us

https://moneyinc.com/most-violent-ci...e-u-s-in-2022/

https://www.safehome.org/resources/c...tics-by-state/

https://www.statutes-of-limitations....united-states/

Some/one might say Miami understates it’s crime statistics; dare I say they are not the only city to do so. I would welcome other stats. St Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, Phoenix, etc remain more “violent” than Miami.

Miami does not even crack the FBI’s top 10 most dangerous cities in the South:

Ironically

Florida, California worst in nation on FBI crime reporting

I always said Florida was the worst at reporting crime/turning over stats (same with homelessness) and this article, which came out yesterday, further proves that. California does the same, not a shock either.

The city of Miami had about 50 murders last year, estimated population of 439,000 = 11.4/100,000. That's pretty damn terrible.

What’s the national average and, out of curiosity, how does that compare to some other cities, notably Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, Atlanta, D.C, LA, Baltimore, Houston and Philadelphia ??

According to Axios, homicides were down in Miami through 1H 2022 but other violent crimes (rape, assault) were up. Again, be helpful to see what the national trend is and what other cities are showing.

Funny enough, a lot of those cities did not report data (or reported half the year). Miami is definitely lower than St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit. It has the same rate as San Antonio, NYC is at about 6.5, Miami also has a higher rate than Austin, Seattle and about double the U.S average. We also have to remember that 2020 was also higher than usual, 2021 went down, 2022 according to MDC (which does not include the city of Miami in their numbers) is down 3%. So it can either stay the same or increase more than 2021, but lower than 2020, barring any serious event.

Interesting….I guess Houston, Philly, DC and Chicago were some of the cities not reporting?…I would guess Miami would, worst case, be on par or actually also lower than those cities as well.

If I recall correctly, Miami has implemented a “gun bounty program” in an effort to reduce gun violence by getting illegal guns off the street.
