I have noticed that Dadeland and many local shopping centers are full this week. What can be driving the shoppers to spend money on non-necessary items if the economy is doing so badly and gas is so high? Is the Miami magic money driving this or is there a more logical explanation? A friend who owns a few businesses also confirmed that more people are buying right now. Maybe this is the check from the government in action?

Most of these people are toursists that flood the malls....wealthy tourists from Central and South America. If it wasn't for tourism, Miami would be another Toledo, Ohio.

I'm in NJ right now and the malls here are packed too. This "recession" thing is kind of overplayed (for now).

Could it possibly be Fathers Day? If you watch the news, sales actually started going up across the country recently. I have to agree with compelled about the recession, I was in the mall yesterday doesn't mean anything other than the ordinary. I find it kind of ridiculous when someone asks a question like this.

I think South Floridians will always continue to spend until the day some clerk cuts up their credit cards. The malls here are always packed, the number one past time for many locals is to go to the mall to shop. Sounds like business as usual to me.

I just returned from the Palm Beach Mall ten minutes ago and it is as empty as it always is. And half the stores are closed down.

Chileto, I am only playing around, you were pretty much correct.
