Hey, Me and my friend will arrive from Orlando Amtrak station to the Miami Amtrak station, which located in Hialeah area near Allapattah neighborhood in Miami. We will get there approximately between 7:00PM to 8:00PM (Saturday). We will need to get from there to the Golden strand resort, Sunny Isles Beach.

So my question is, if it will be safe for two 18 yo male tourists with trolley bags to walk about 1/2 mile in that area at dark, to the nearest bus stop that will take us to Sunny Isles Beach?

We never were in this area and in Florida at all so I'm sorry for my ignorance in this topic...

Thanking you in advance...

It will still be light out at 7-8 pm. I'm not familiar with that train station, but from what I know about Allapattah, I don't think that's a great neighborhood to be at any hour looking like tourists. I think it would be better to take a taxi.

On another note, are you aware that at the moment, they are forecasting a fairly large hurricane to hit the Miami area on Tuesday? This can change, of course - it could go north or south - but you should be aware this is a possibility. You will arrive at that hotel on Saturday but you might have to evacuate on Sunday or Monday, and if you don't know anyone here, you might end up at a hurricane shelter at a school. Which is always an adventure in itself.

Maybe you should call the Golden Strand Resort and ask them what the outlook is for hotel guests there. They might have some advice for you.

I found the Amtrak station to be at the 8300 block of Northwest Miami at 12th avenue right next to the City of Hialeah(30th st.) about where the warehouses divide the City of Miami and Hialeah. The railroad tracks run between the two cities.

I wouldnt; 1st of all...I took the amtrak to Miami back in 2004 and it was like 830 when I got there.

Now; there's buses that already come thru there. what you should do is take the L to Miami beach which pulls into the station in the front. tell them you need to get to sunny isles and they will tell you to get off on the beach at 79th and indian creek to switch to the beach buses that take you north to sunny isles; which I believe is the K, C, or S...

damn this is bringing back memories...Its been 4 years and I remember that **** like yesterday!

Default Thank you all!

First of all thank you all,

nicsma2002: Yes, Unfortunately I'm aware to the hurricanes but I'm arriving in October 4th, Saturday. And you probably right, Taxi will be the Best way...

noland123: So you're saying it isn't safe?

UrbaneAspects: Thank you for your exact bus trip . But unfortunately we will arrive at Saturday (October 4th), and in that day there are only few L buses in the entire day that come into the Amtrak station. So we will need to wait more than a hour to this bus. If we will wait for that bus, is it considered safe to wait outside the Amtrak station that long in the evening?

Thanks all

The Amtrak arrival time is somewhat unpredictable. It's very padded between Ft Lauderdale and Miami (almost an hour) so don't count out the L bus coming into the Amtrak stop.

You'll be okay though walking to the Metro or bus stop. It's not a great area but I have done it many times, including in the dark.

Overall though, this might be a good time to put a few bucks aside and take a cab. The cost would be around 3 beers on the beach and well worth it.

If you aren't wearing any jewelry, are street smart, and don't look like the stereotypical, "easy target" tourist then you should do fine. I personally have not had any problems at stations like this at night, but there are definitely lots of shady characters hanging around.

I wouldn't mind it, but that's just me. If you are a pretty, white female wearing a rolex I could understand why you would avoid that station and public transportation in general in Miami like the plague.

Default OK, Thank you very much!

Although we are not two fancy young females with jewels, but we are still tourists with bags, money, cc's and things like that. So like some of you said, the right thing to do is probably to take a taxi directly to the resort.

So if we are taking a cab from the Amtrak station to Sunny Isles Beach, which is better station to depart at - Hollywood Amtrak station or Miami Amtrak station? (which is safer? which is easier to catch a taxi at?)

there are going to be any cabs in this stations or we will need to call one?

Thank you very much guys, I appreciate your help...I tried some tourist forums but they aren't experienced like you guys
