There was a group of people playing this game on south beach. Has anybody seen them? Is it legal? They were making pretty good cash. It was group of black spanish people (maybe cubans) and a few people were winning who were obviously with them. But I saw a group of tourist lose $500. The guy collected his tops and knocked the boxes over and left. I noticed the people who were winning followed behind him from a distance.

The shell game is just an old trick seen on city streets worldwide. It's just a little show - you're not supposed to win, you're supposed to spend a dollar and have a laugh.

If someone lost $500 in that game on south beach, there's a good chance it was chump change to them. If not, well.. imagine them in vegas.

It's more commonly uses cards and referred to three card monte, but I guess the shells add to the tropical appeal. It is illegal US-wide. It is a scam and should be avoided. Sometimes the operator takes a gamble on the mark by letting them win here and there in hopes that the will play longer. However if the mark wins and walks away, they commonly get followed and robbed...

You have the same games in NYC .
If you have set foot in NYC just once you wouldnt have to ask if its illegal as they fly when the look out tells them cop in area.

I dont understand how you live in Brooklyn and ask if its legal or not . I dont know a single person in NY past age of 11 who would ask that question because they know it isnt ESP since played so much in NY.

Your question gives the implication that this is only in Miami and that you are ignorant to this type of street gambling. I have seen it few times in Miami and ZILLION times in NY.

I agree with you Luiso ,that is a ridiculous question for someone to ask and I noticed the OP hasn't made any further statements. What a waste of bandwidth this thread is.
