We are planning to move to Florida and was wondering where is the least hit by hurricane/storms. Do you know where we can get this statistics?

Miami always misses the 'direct hit'. There would sure to be a hailstorm of terra cotta shingle-grenades unlike any other city.

Tampa Tampa and Tampa.
The northern gulf coast gets hit regularly, 2004 was bad for the SW FLA area (Ft. Myers, etc...) and Palm Beach. And Miami was hit by Andrew in 92.
According to this website, last time Tampa was hit was 1921. Some say the big one might be coming, but I say it's geography:

Orlando isn't necessarily safer because it has no coast. Hurricanes cross the state regularly. If you want the best quality of life while staying close to a metropolitan area, heed my advice and move to Tampa!

It is also said that Tampa would be the most dangerous area to live if a hurricane hits FL. Why? Because of its inadequate evacuation plan and just the geographical shape of the area. I would say that if you are planning to move to FL, and you are trying to avoid hurricanes, don't move there at all. Hurricanes are unpredictable and can hit any where the FL coast.

Jacksonville I believe is the least hit place in the state stats wise. Orlando got hit by 3 storms in 2005 if I am correct.

Basically, you don't go to Tampa for its downtown. Miami's downtown is something to behold. It is probably the most cosmopolitan city (Including other areas like Sobe, Avevntura, Coral Gables) south of Chicago, Boston, NYC, San Fran, etc... No other southern city except for maybe Atlanta compares, and even then, it is a stretch...
The Miami International Boat show alone draws a million over the week it is here -2004 numbers. I'm sure it is much less now with the economy. It is the largest boat show in the world. Then you have Art Basel, Miami Food and Wine, and ULTRA Music festival. Who doesn't like yachts, gourmet food, and hypnotic music??? And Miami hosts top venues for all three industries.
