Hello
I am an european girl and i chose FIU for an english course due I am quite out of practice speaking English.
However I am fluenty in spanish.
Is this a good choice or would you recomend another university in Florida?

I am gonna stay on FIU campus and I am quite concerned about how to manage getting by public transport to South Beach, city center and back in the evenings because I don´t feel like stay on campus 24/7

Can you tell me how many times I ll have to change transit for going to SoBe and how long it will take me? mAybe someone knows the number of the buses?

Thx

No have car, that big problem. Yoo need a carro to drive to el FIU. No autobus will take you to South Beach without taking an hour and a half from FIU... A car will take 20 minutes.

Yea public transportation from FIU to south beach will be about a 2 hour ride. I had a friend that used to do that on occasion and it took several bus trasnfers and around 2 hours overall. FIU is an ok choice, its a large public university but the location is not great. Its not close to much. The only other options are University of Miami and Barry. Barry is not in a good neighborhood but UM is. From UM you can get to south beach much quicker and easier and UM is very close to entertainment like Coconut Grove, South Miami, and Coral Gables.

I definately would rather have a car than not have one if I was in your position. That's just me though.

You'll want car, but then again who cares, if youare going to south beach you'll be going with friends anyways. It doesn't matter what university you go to, having a car will be much better.

There is an Express Shuttle from FIU to Miami Beach that travels back and forth every hour.

Once an hour, presumably only during the day, is pretty useless in general and definitely useless for going out in evenings and nights.

Lalo

I was also a foreign student at FIU ages ago. I had no car and I had to rely on buses and on friends, then I bought a moped. A moped is perfect, I used to go to MB with my moped. I always had mopeds and bikes, so I had never any problem.

As to buses, lets see if I remember...to go to MB from FIU you need to take a bus to Downtown, ask a transfer and take another bus to MB....2 hours or more....plus, I was scared s.h.tless once I had to wait for a bus at a downtown stop.

So, buy a moped...way cheaper than in Europe, at that time you did not need any permit, but now is different I think. Just stop at the Honda at Coral Gables (if still exists), they have lots of second hand bikes.

Guys Lalo asked this question over 4 years ago. I do not understand how this happens so often. FIUAlum? Did you do a Google search looking for some thread to respond to?
