Just wondering how reliable the metro rail is, I'm going to be taking it out to the airport from the Coconut Grove stop for an 8:00am flight... I was thinking about getting there around 6:00.

I take the metrorail often, it's reliable. They come often in the a.m. hours I think every 10 mins, ck the website. You should be fine. How are you doing the route? You will have to take the tri-rail to get to the airport unless you take another means of transportation. Let me know, I know the tri-rail is not too reliable. I have used it a few times & one of the times the route had a problem & I had to wait for the next one.

How do you get from Metrorail to the airport itself? Is there a bus?

Metrorail is generally reliable as far as sticking to the schedule. You can find the schedules, etc. here: Miami-Dade County - Transit. However, since you will need to transfer to a bus or Tri Rail in order to get the airport, that is where you could run into problems.

I'm not sure exactly how you would get to MIA from Metrorail. The MIA website is terrible for offering suggestions on how to get there using public transit (then again, the public transit ain't so great to begin with), and the Miami-Dade transit site makes you dig through everything and I still haven't found out how to do it (don't have the time).

This is one of the biggest failures of the Metrorail. It is just fine for where it goes, but it does not go to the places it needs to go the most: airport and beaches!

As mentioned before, Tri-rail. But I think even then you still have to catch a bus from Tri-Rail to the terminal.

I'd think getting off at the Douglas road station and taking the Douglas bus is a better option.

Whatever you do, don't use the Miami Dade 'trip planner'; it's a joke.

It gets tough specially w/luggage. I thought of taking the train during my last trip, since I live w/easy to access to it, but I figured between the costs & the hassles from the metromover to the metrorail & then tri-rail it did not make sense. You have to factor in eveyrthing.

It's certainly not like using the Metro in DC where it takes you right into the airport and all you have to do is maybe change a train.

Thanks miamiblue -- looks like J basically goes down Le Jeune and loops through MIA, MY best bet.
Metrorail-Tri-Rail-bus seems silly. MetroRail - #238 seems better but still.

The spur from the Earlington Heights Metrorail station into the Miami Intermodal Center seems likely (from what Google could tell me) -- that would help a LOT!

You are MUCH better off taking a cab. Or call Super Shuttle. They're not that expensive and from the Grove, you're pretty close anyway.

BTW.......Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, etc. Have a good time back home.
