Going to Miami for a week in March. Have friends that just moved from South Beach to Kendall near S.W. 88th St. & the FL Turnpike. Is that an OK or fairly safe area? Not sure if we want to stay with them or get a hotel. All replys are appreciated. Been to Miami many many many times and know it pretty well...just don't know anything about Kendall. THANKS!

PS - any areas of Kendall to stay away from?

Kendall is safe (relatively speaking by Miami standards)... You will need a car because it is pretty far from anything (30-40 min to South Beach)... If you want to be close to the action then this is not the place because Kendall is ultra-suburbia kind of like Huntersville, NC (I see you are in Charlotte so that can give you a reference... not much to do in Kendall)...

There are certain areas of Kendall that get a little rougher like between Sunset and Kendall Drive around 152 Ave or so but you are fine if it's off of Kendall and the Turnpike... That area is OK...

Thanks for the response. We will have a car no problem. As long as it is a safe area we are cool with being in suburbia. Have been to Miami many times but usually are in the downtown, South Beach, Sunny Isles & Aventura areas. Have never been to Coconut Grove, South Miami or Kendall areas. Friends just moved to Kendall from South beach recently. After living in South Beach for years...it got a little to much for them and they wanted suburbia.

Kendall is a nice, safe suburb of Miami and some of the neighborhoods near 88th and the Turnpike are very nice. Nothing to worry about at all.

My dad lives off of 120th near the small airport there. His neighborhood is very safe. Kendall is a nice area. And its really close to the Florida keys!

There are a bunch of hotels out by the Turnpike and Kendall Drive (88th) . And then there are a bunch of hotels on Kendall Drive and US1. The coolest one in that area is the Indigo Hotel (Hotel Continental owned). Kendall is pretty safe on Miami standards, just be aware of your surroundings, look the car doors when parked, don't leave anything in the car of value, and you will be fine.

Remember, the best parts of "Kendall" are those built before the 80's. Crime is not very bad in the area but remember, use common sense and be aware of your surroundings. There is nothing at all to do after 11PM.
