I must commend you on your attitude though (re: France). If you go to France and at least make an effort to speak French, you'll find that the French are nowhere near as "rude" as their reputation in the US implies (I've been to France many times and can vouch for this).

Ultimately, it's all about respect and "do unto others". Treat people in a way that you'd like to be treated, live and let live.

BTW, McDonalds in France are 100 times better than ours, so you may want to reconsider not wanting to order a "royale with cheese" LOL.
Thanks for the heads up on McDonalds.
Though I am not a big beef eater, I'll try it.
Thank you for your encouragement on a new thread. Here's an example: I walk into this "Cuban Restaurant" I like, all the clientele are Hispanic (best guess,) but not Cuban, all the staff is non-Cuban. (Know this as throughout the years I've asked)
I've had fun on the streets as well. I don't look Hispanic. I've lived in Mt Dora Fl and Tequesta/Jupiter Inlet (both 92% white non-Hispanic) People put me all over the map, Vermont, Mass.... Anyways, in Miami I have my share of fun, I go to some clerk and speak in English with a big smile.
I am easily amused.

I am a native English speaker from Miami. It is totally untrue that Cubans are not a majority in Miami. Here are the statistics:

Miami is a majority Latino city -- 70 percent of its population is Hispanic. And while Cuban-Americans still comprise over half of the city's population -- 54 percent -- the city's Hispanic composition is changing. According to a Pew Hispanic report, about 13 percent of Miami-Dade's Latinos are from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, and 32 percent are from other Central and South American countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, El Salvador, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras and Brazil.

We live in Tampa Bay now, which is mostly English speaking, but still diverse. We raised our daughter to take every year of Spanish she could, which was 7 years. She has also traveled to Spain and the Dominican republic, and is now fluent in Spanish. It has helped her enormously in getting a good job as a social worker. Even though 1/3 of the social workers in her company are of Latin descent, only 3, including her, are actually bilingual.

I don't think English speaking Americans in Florida should have to learn Spanish, but it is a tremendous advantage if you do. I've never been sorry for making my daughter learn it. She has a great advantage in getting work.

Even better way to fix the budget: enforce speeding and following distance laws.

"American Indians" also migrated from another continent. The difference is that they didn't build an amazing society with the Internet, air conditioning, airplanes, the Bill of Rights, etc.

If liberals decide that they don't like this discrimination against native speakers, it would end immediately in a blizzard of news reports, tear-jerking Hollywood drama, law suits, and job firings.

Every time I go to a store and the attendant try to switch me to Spanish I keep talking in English no matter how they try, and I open my eyes as big as a dish to make them feel like a s@#%, and I say something like: "Why are you talking to me in Spanish if I am talking to you in English?", and I make sure to make the report on the store online. I have countless of reports. Not sure but this always happens to me with Cubans.
