Do you like theater? Concerts? Miami abounds with options. Do you like camping? The keys and barrier islands of South Florida are in easy reach. Do you like to go boating? Jet skiing? What else is "fun" that you WANT to do, but CANNOT do, besides winter sports?

Most major concert tours will have either a Miami, or a Fort Lauderdale concert stop. Seeing as how the two cities are like, 20 miles apart, it's not exactly a long schlep.

Great Sarah Silverman verbiage. Even though the two cities are only 20 miles apart, they are like distant plantes when looking at the demographics. Back to the OP.

Between West Palm Beach and Miami you will find any concert you can think of year round.

If you're into pop music and pop culture, then Miami is the place for you. If you are interested in a vibrant local band scene, a variety of jazz, classical chamber music, or live music in general, then Miami is not the place for you. Even five years ago there were a lot more bands around. Now it's like a desert.

I do like techo/trance/dance/club/DJ music, and that is one thing Miami is great for.

I'm going to be the devil's advocate and say the following:

If you spoke Spanish, you could take Salsa lessons, hold "Cuba Libre" mojito parties, teach English (if there is a demand?), indulge in Santeria..

Ok forget it just reading what I wrote it doesnt seem too appealling anyway. I guess Miami really is Boringsville.

I dunnow.... even in West Palm Beach we have a multitude of classical, opera, and ballet, jazz and dance offerings at the Kravis Center. I just can't imagine that Miami would have anything less than what's available up here.

Yes, now that we have the $100+ million dollar arts center in downtown Miami, there are more opportunities for classical, opera, and ballet (not sure about jazz and dance), as well as theater productions. Would that there were parking, or a reasonable way to get there on public transportation.

It's better than it was before (as long as they can keep those venues full), if you have plenty of money, but it doesn't compare with the likes of Boston or New York. It looks like the Coconut Grove Playhouse is gone for good.

In Boston there were many bands performing live every week, all kinds of music. There were plays (Boston has a theater district), there was comedy, and there were publicly-accessable events happening at the many college campuses in the area.

The situation is better in Broward than it is in Miami-Dade.

Some bright spots in Miami are Tobacco Road, Churchills, the New World Symphony in South Beach, as well as the Van Dyke Cafe, also on Lincoln Road. You may even luck out and see a good band at Finnegan's 2.
