Jeremy Larkin, president of NAI Miami Commercial Real Estate Services Worldwide, said he wasn’t shocked, considering the revenue hit that retail has taken nationally.

Larkin, who is not involved in the project, said downtown Miami had not matured fast enough to accommodate Whole Foods’ revenue model and the project’s changes gave them an out on their contract.

“In order for them to be successful, they need affluent people to spend dollars for premium foods,” Larkin explained. “The narrow margin of people that exist are on the bay and there aren’t enough to support a Whole Foods operation.”
I read this article when it was first announced. It was the above line from the article that made me say what i said.

If you're a single guy who can handle himself fairly well, I think it's a steal. I walked the area day and night last time I was in MIA staying at the Marriot down the street. The area right now reminds me of SoBe in the 80's. Most dorks on the street are punks who you could KO with one shot and usually back down on first bark. I used to work in Overtown at day labor in 86/87. Never one fight. Always someone hitting on you for money or cigarettes, but hey, if you're on a bike, far fewer issues. We have a few posters here who live in the area who are much like myself and love the area. So the exactly block is scrappy. 5 minutes on the bike and you're in Bayside or catching the bus to SoBe from Omni.

Just like SoBe, that property value will soar. Do it if ya got the guts. That area is definitely coming along.

EDIT: Oh DUH. Talking to a ghost from an ancient thread. Oh well.

Yet another sales rep with his only post looking a lot like a real estate ad. A friend of mine rented there for a year. He's still alive, but he didn't enjoy it one bit...
