It may be 'quieter' and less pretentious than "downtown" ie Flagler Street by the court houses, but it is by no means "better off" than the Brickell half of downtown. Brickell isn't caged in by ghettoes, Little Haiti, and MLK drive, and there is more to do there than look at furniture.

Brickell is brickell though- there is a huge difference. I live north of flagler in downtown- compared to where I live- staring at Overtown and a bunch of homeless every time I leave the house- the design district is better off. Its important to know that Brickell is not downtown- at all.
