I am on the hunt for either a live poultry farm or a place where I can get fresh killed chickens.

It's a rather long story, but I used to be able to get unlaid eggs when I was in the NY area. In plain English, these are eggs that have not been laid and are sometimes discovered when an elderly laying hen is slaughtered. They are a specialty, hard to come-by item that I miss from my youth. If you have never had them, you can read more from this 2007 NY Times article - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/07/dining/07eggs.html
These have been used in various ways and by various ethnic groups; Jews (in chicken soup), Indians (in curry), the French (topping a bouchée à la reine), etc.

However, I cannot find a place that slaughters the chickens on site. I would have thought that it would have been easy in Miami, as many ethnic groups usually have neighborhood slaughterhouses, but I can't find any.

I was hoping that someone on here may be able to point me in the direction of a farm, or poultry slaughterhouse that they know of... and yes, I already googled all the relevant term and found no one or farm that can help.

Many thanks....

Try the Brickel area there are lots of free range chickens in that neighborhood. Just drive around any neighborhood at 4am with your radio turned off and your windows down and you will hear them everywhere.

There was a place out in the Redlands that I went to to buy palm trees about a year ago. They had live chickens for sale. Your best bed would be the Redlands, Homestead, or some other rural area.

I actually just got off the phone with the Delaware Chicken Farm in Hollywood... they said that there is a tri-county law that outlaws the slaughtering of poultry within the tri-counties... very strange...

Doesn't stop people in Miami. Sorry I was trying humor. Miami is over run with chickens you see because people with weird cultures come here and think they are still way out in the sticks and bring their chickens and goats with them. It's not just the country people it the santaria people too. I only say weird because it is not normal in citys these days to have animals running around.

yeah, I know... I have seen people in the Gables that have chickens in their yards... crazy... I know the Haitians protested at the courthouse once and threw dead chickens on the steps... I still see wild foxes in the Gables as well...

I was just going to type that it's illegal to kill your own any type of fowl here. in any event we raise chickens for our own consumption on a tract of land we own in glades county. you might need to drive up US 27 for about an hour and half into hendry/glades/okeechobee counties.

So it's even illegal for commercially owned and poultry farms to do fresh kills in the tri-county area? Wow... makes no sense to me.

Hmmmm... guess I am out of luck... do you ever bring any fresh unlaid chicken eggs to Miami?...
