So I leave tomorrow for my trip down for some interviews. Any good restaurants or food places that I should hit while I'm here?

Zagat lists 120 restaurants for that area....are you more interested in top rated food or ambiance?

For breakfast hit Tony's, Cracker Barrel or Wagon's West in Homestead (just north of Florida City).

expect high prices and poor customer service though which is pretty typical down here. lower your expectations and you should be ok.

doggiebus, that cracker barrel just opened we've been meaning to hit that when we're off atkins. we liked it when we tried it in fort myers for the first time. we also like waffle house course maybe thats why we're on atkins =P

One place I can recommend to the locals on this forum is an A&W type place located across from Miami Dade North campus. I don't recall the name off hand, but they have that old style, "American" drive in type food. Burgers, fries and southern food. I used to go there all the time when I went to Miami Dade, I still sometimes make the trek up 27Ave when I have a craving. It is kind of like glorifies fast food in a blue collar place.

This place is Miami in full effect (everything good and bad discussed on this board), and not for the squemish! But the ladies that work there are really nice and the customers will keep to themselves and not bother you. Enjoy.

Is Rascal House Restaurant in Sunny Isles still in operation. I heard it was going to replaced with a condominium.

I know these aren't necessarily the glitzy, over priced places on Miami Beach, but great food at very reasonable prices:

Mexican - El Torro Taco in Homestead or Guadalajara in Pinecrest
Japanese - Shibui in South Miami (miss this place!)
Italian - Randazzo's Little Italy in Coral Gables
Breakfast - I second Wagon's West
Thai - Sea Siam in Pinecrest (although there are many good ones in Homestead)
BBQ - Shorty's or The Pit (off Tamiami Trail and ? way out west toward the 'Glades)
Pizza - Miami's Best Coral Gables/South Miami area or The Big Cheese
