Totally random question, I want to get rid of an old mattress and also some other junk, and was wondering if there is a service offerred by the city/county that would pick this stuff up, or if I would have to bring it to a dump at a certain point in time. I've searched the county website and it seems a bit vague, but from what I can gather, the mattress would be too big for them to come and pick up. Also, I have the stuff at a storage location, so it is not in a residential area. I've also noted that there are private operators that provide this service.

Any advice on this topic would be very much appreciated!

Have you contacted any charities to pick it up?

Try the Salvation Army, you can schedule a pick up. They are low on stuff in South Florida right now.

I want to say that charities won't pick up USED mattresses due to the fact that most people don't want them used for obvious reasons...but we also are in the era of bed bugs nowadays as well.
Sadly, I don't have an answer, but this is probably why you see so many people dumping mattresses at dumpsters or abandoned areas...there isnt a clear answer but I would guess you can take it to a dump or pay a permit and have them take it away like any other large piece of garbage. Or call one of the private companies and ask what the options are.

you throw it in the middle of the street and wait for someone else to collect it like everyone else does.

And that is one of the things that makes Miami a first class city.

i love that, its funny as hell, cause its the TRUTH!!

usually u dump it on a street corner where no one can stake claim to it, so it falls on the city to pick up

True, but if you get caught you will be slapped with a hefty fine and imagine if everyone took the same approach when they wanted to get rid of something.

I'm confused with a lot of the answers here. City proper, put it out on the curb!
