Hi! Myself and my boyfriend are heading to miami (from dublin) for the summer and are looking for some/any advice! We are coming over at the beginning of June and hope to stay for approx. 6 weeks, maybe more, depending on how we like it. We are hoping to rent a nice apt. on near Miami beach. However we don't know the area very well and don't really know where to start looking! I am also hoping to find some work, part-time or otherwise.. any advice?
Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated!

Karbre

In Miami Beach rents are around 1000 euros and salaries are very low.

There are many, many, many, Irish people in the Ft. Lauderdale- Boca Raton- Delray area. Youre going to find that youre in a bit of culture shock on Miami Beach. My family is from Cork, and they have found Delray and Ft. Lauderdale to be better places to live.

Sounds like you are coming over for J1 summer work so I would suggest South Beach. There are tons of service jobs available in the shops and restaurants. The beach is walking distance from almost anywhere on South Beach and you don't need a car. Rent for a studio furnished is on average about $1100 a month. I'm not sure how to go about finding a place for only 6 weeks, maybe a sublet? I am also assuming that you already have funds in place if you have been issued a visa to work for the 6 weeks.
Don't worry about the culture shock comments, that's nonsense. While it's not Boston, there is no reason why an Irish person would not enjoy themselves here. We moved here indefinitely from Cork and love it!
