I live right by there. They're putting in Baptist Hospital (the building you see on 96th St). They were also supposed to have Muvico, Dillards, Circuit City, Sears, Burdines, Hampton Inn, Smokey Bones, etc. Most of those places don't exist or are having financial problems. Also, the land is owned by General Growth which just filed for bankruptcy (largest bankruptcy filing in the US) so there are no plans for anything now besides the hospital. It would've been nice if the hospital would've been placed on Kendall since that's a commercial street but I guess that would be good planning which is an oxymoron in Miami. 96th Street where the hospital is on only runs from 167th ave to 152nd ave so access to the hospital will be a little difficult for most people. There are 3 schools right next to the emergency entrance of the hospital; Varela on 96th St, Oliver Hoover Primary Center on 96th St, and Christina Eve elementary off of 96th St on 162 Ave. Hopefully, there won't be too many emergencies when school starts or when school lets out!

I sure as hell hope that ambulances don't have to observe the stupid school speed zone rules. I'd hate to think someone died because the abulance was doing 15 mph half an hour after all teh kids were already in school.

I know, it's ridiclous. The schools have been here for years. I don't know whose bright idea it was to put the hospital on that corner and on that street in particular. 3 schools within 5 blocks plus a hospital.
