I am on vacation here from san francisco. I make about $150,000 salary from computer engineering and i barely make it by. I pay $2500 mortgage. I notice houses here are half the price and twice the size of the houses i have. I wonder if riches come here because it is cheaper? I also wonder what these fools do here that i am not doing

In the winter many of them are snowbirds, tourists, students, europeans, canadians, and teenagers.

In the summer you see less of these folks, they are mainly students and a few posers and trust fund babies.

There are generalizations and assumptions in this thread. Sounds like typical anti-wealth sentiment. There are certainly shady people, posers, and inheritors but i don't think its THAT bad as this thread makes it seem.

The ones that can afford them usually have nice jobs in the Medical field(doctors, pharmacists) Sales (insurance, Telephone company, Banks, medical again) Attorneys, Upper management in most companies etc. Even a supermarket store manager can make six figures. Those jobs either take a lot of schooling, take forever to get promoted to that level or you have to be a really but really good sales person to keep a good sales job. There are also small business owners who do well.

Then you have another set who make between 30-60k, they can't afford to own luxury cars but they get leases like nurses, other medical positions, middle management etc. They usually get the cheaper model of a luxury car.

Then you have a group that makes even less money, they drive really nice cars but they live at home with "los abuelos" who pays their rent and utilities with their retirement or social security checks. These people only have to work for their car payment and sometimes work for minimum wage.

About rent, sometimes they have roommates, paying 1k between 2 or 3 people is not that hard.
This.

I have noticed that as well.

Here in CT anything under $200k gets you something outdated, built in the 40's, under 1200 sqft, and on a tiny lot.
