What are the best restaurants you've been to in the Miami metro area (and why)?

As for me, I loved The Forge. Imlee Indian Bistro is awesome for those of you who like good Indian food.

Also, does anyone know the best place to go for authentic Cuban food?

Authentic Cuban food? There is Cuban food everywhere you turn here. How authentic do you want it to be? La Carreta, Versailles? I don't really like Versailles but....everybody else seems to think it's good. How about Casa Juancho, although not totally Cuban.

I just ate so can't think of any place because I'm not hungry.

Do you like fish? This is not a upscale place but it is so good. I mean REALLY good. You can order any type of fish with any of the sauces on the list. I couldn't decide so I just picked something from a picture. It was delicious. It's called Cayo Esquivel (or something close). Right next to Best Buy on Bird Road - around 79th Ave. You may have to practice Spanish ahead of time, or point to the pictures.

Are you kidding? I LOVE fish! I will definetely try Cayo Esquivel if it's decent. I've been to a couple of La Carreta restaurants and they were very good (and very affordable), but I haven't done Versailles yet.

What about Casa Larios in South Miami, it's owned by Gloria, I have always had a great meal of Cuban food there. Versailles is good, a little greasy the last time I was there, but still good. La Carretta has the best chicken soup when you are sick.

Casa Larios is the other one I was trying to think of. It's a nice place and the food is pretty good although, honestly, to me it tastes like they put a different twist on it to cater to more "international" vs everyday Cuban patrons.

Believe it or not I had Picadillo there with mashed potatoes and it was very yummy. You could have "ropa vieja" with white rice and black beans. Palomilla steak with rice, beans and tostones.

Picadillo is pretty much a "poor man's meal". Sort of white rice with a couple of runny fried eggs which you mix into the rice and some fried sweet plantains and avocado. Ummm ummmm good and great for our friend cholesterol. The avocado is healthy though.

You're gonna make me go over there!

I forgot...the best meal that I have had in Miami was Azul at the Mandarin. Everything from the service, presentation of the foods, smells and tastes are all amazing. Its probably the second best meal I have ever had, first place goes to a place in Colorado. But it was really close to a tie.

I forgot the name of that Nicaraguan place for when you just want a good simple cafeteria style meal. I think it's the Fritanga Monimbo. I really like it on the cheap. Anyone know of any good Chinese?

The local Canton House near where I live (East Kendall/Pinecrest) is very good.

Where can I find the nearest 'Fritanga Monimbo', because that sounds like it'd be right up my alley?

Many thanks....I'll add that to the list of places to eat!
