We are planning on getting married in southeastern florida on august 31st...that's a monday...

What we're looking for is an empty-ish beach type area...for example, it doesn't have to be a great swimming spot, because we won't be swimming at all, and would prefer less people around anyways... It just has to be some sand to stand on, and enough room for about 20 people. Close access to parking would be a plus... We are all staying in miami beach, but are open to anything around the southeastern florida area we could drive to...for example, up to ft lauderdale, down by biscayne bay maybe...

And since this is a monday, if anyone could give us ideas of the most desolate beach on the last monday in august, that we could get to without a hike, that'd be great... We are either going to have the ceremony at 10am, or 6.30pm, right before sunset...any opinions are to which is better? Which will be less "hot"?

One thing i'd really like to know is if there is a "shelter" or "picnic" area that is covered, and for rent, that is as close to the beach as possible, in case of rain. For example, i saw there were shelters that could be rented in Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, but none were actually ON the beach, or on the edge of the beach even - they were all kind of seperated by a wooded area from the beach... I was trying to look for other public/state/etc parks that rent pavillions that are very close to the actual sand - so you can see the ocean or a bay, etc, in the background, if we're forced into the pavillion...

thanks in advance...any questions, just ask...

you may want to check the sunset time. Right now its like sunset is around 8:15 to 8:30 pm. Just check it may be at 7:30 in the end of August???? As for which is a better time, well both have an evil, if you will, 10am its going to warm if not hot and humid already. Now at around sunset it will be hot and humid, but you will also have the chance of mosquitos depending where you decide to have the ceremony. Also know that August is the second rainest month for us. Also August is one of our more active months during hurricane season, FYI.

All that said, I have the perfect place, and afterwards you can have dinner there if you do it in the evening. A friend got married on the beach recently here. Its located in Matheson Hammock, plenty of parking, there is an Atoll that you could get married at. Really pretty. And then afterwards you could have dinner at Red Fish Grill. This place is romantic.

Also note that the sunsets to the west here, so if you get married in Miami anyplace you will not get those sunset photos per se. If you want Sunset photos with the sun going down, etc, you will need to get married in the Keys on the Bayside, not Oceanside.

I did check the sunset time, it is ~7.45 that night, and our ceremony is short...so we figured an hour 15 minutes for the ceremony and pictures would be long enough... So the mosquitos come out right before sundown? Hmmm...another consideration...

...and how awful is it really going to be at 10am? I just don't think we can do it any earlier...i wish, because of the heat, but i don't think anyone will be happy at 9am...

oh - i realized about the sun direction, it was more about the heat...although at bill baggs/cape florida, i was looking at the area on the east side of the key...in any case, we're trying to avoid a scorching sun more than anything...trying to make it as comfortable as possible...

i'll take a look at that place you linked to...thank you...

I don't know if there is a beach per se in Bill Baggs that would put the sunset behind you????I think the sandy beaches in Bill Baggs are on the Oceanside, the otherside were you can get pics with the sunset I don't think there is a beach. More of a sea wall and rock boulders on that side.

I went to a wedding in the Bahamas last July on the beach at sunset, really pretty, but it was warm, a little uncomfortable, but it was fast and everyone went back to the restaurant for drinks... Either way at 10 am or 7pm it will be warm and uncomfortable (especially for those from the north) to me it might be a little bit more comfortable in the evening, but then there is the chance of no seums and mosquitos...But I guess you could just put SSS on. I would do the evening if it were me, a little more romantic too at that time.

If there is sand that turned into rocks behind us, that would be fine too...

...is there a photogallery of the wedding you went to online somewhere? I'd love to see a few pictures...

I would never plan a wedding in South Florida during Hurricane season...but that is just my opinion. I will re-visit this thread in late August.
