My husband recently applied for a job in Miami and we thinking about moving WAY down there! Does anyone have any advice on schools (we have a 10, 4, and 1 year old), daycare costs, neighborhoods, cost of living, etc? that you could share? We heard about this town called Homestead.... Thanks

OK, let's see if this post is legit. What brings you all to Miami? What kind of jobs are relocating you to the area? Why Homestead? What have you heard about Homestead that makes you interested in living there? Have you researched the other Miami threads on schools and Homestead specifically? Sorry about all of the questions, but some people will be attacked as bashers if we answer this thread honestly, so I am just checking to see if this is "bate."

Go through and read all the threads in the Miami forums, and you will see Miami isn't a place to raise children. You will be doing a detrement to your kids childhood and future if you move here. My friends with kids, are the ones actually leaving the state to raise their children in better places. Miami is a good place for single, young people to play, not to raise a family anymore.

I could not agree with you more...I live in Homestead with teenage kids and can not wait to get out..I could not live with myself if I actually told someone they should move here...most want out! Traffic, crowded stores with employees who have no work ethic, horrible schools and prepare for a wait for hours if you should have a broken bone and have to go to the emergency room..it's sad to me that my kids actually think that the rest of the country is like this..my goal is to be out within the year....

I know you didn't ask me, but I am looking at California or Colorado.

I've heard really good things about Fort Collins, CO. Affordable and gorgeous...if you don't mind the winters

I am not 100% sure yet. I really like North Florida/GA/AL but have looked as far as PA. The property tax there seems high though and I'd like to get away from that! I am sure the homeowners insurance is cheaper though! We just want to go somewhere that "please" and "thank you" are a part of every day vocabulary!
