Hi, im a new yorker at the moment, i have friends in family in florida and am looking to move down that way. i loved miami i go about 3 times a year and south beach is just amazing, nyc-ish but prettier and with an ocean lol.

ive been looking at apartments and the pictures posted for surfside and sunny isles are amazing and the rent is pretty affordable. are these decent places to live? im 24, i figured that since they are on the island and not too far from south beach i can take PT down to where the nightlife is. but at the same time i dont want to end up in a retirement community by accident, lol. I would like to live around some people my age. I def dont want to be on the mainland, altho i have been to coconut grove and i liked parts of it. it seemed to have a nice kind of artsy hippy feel in some parts and a lil too uptight in others.

I would love to live in south beach itself, but im looking to spend no more than 1400 on a 2 bedroom so im assuming that isnt possible

i would love some feedback, suggestions, info on neighborhoods. Thanks

I currently live in Sunny Isles Beach and live at Marina Del Mar. Currently pay 1360 for a one bedroom on the 18th floor. My rent was just raised to 1410 for the same one bedroom. The price here just exploded. It is not affordable anymore. I will move to Kissimmee in a month because I can not afford to live here anymore. 1400 will only get you a one bedroom. You can take the bus to South Beach. Public transportation is very good because busses on collins go by every 20-30 minutes during the day. They also run all night but normally take an hour to go by. Sunny Isles Beach is kinda isolated because once you cross the bridge that connects the Beach to the mainland, you are in the city of North miami and North miami beach. These are places you would not go at night. The rude people would not bother you because you are from New York. They bother me!! Good Luck trying to find a place to live.

Sunny Isles and Surfside are nice but still quite expensive...Surfside probably more than Sunny Isles but Sunny Isles is seeing a lot of development so thats going to make prices higher i'm sure. My advice would be to maybe get a roommate or two, this way rent will be less expensive and you can live in the South Beach area itself.
