so back to other parts of the city. how awesome is the party sceene? and compaired to other major cities? how safe is it if your out? how does everyone get home after drinking? what else can i expect? if anyone has been to texas and austin inparticular then comparisons between the 2 would be good.

_______

Miami Beach and Miami has the most important party scene in the South.

Miami is safe except in very localized ghettos, just like London. Spanish-speaking sections are safe and some are touristical. "How to get back home after drinking"...well, if you are caught drunk while driving you're in serious trouble. Public transportation is almost non-existent. I guess you'll have to find a watering hole near home...Well, in England it's not different, but distances are far shorter and you can walk to places, public transportation, etc.

As to the difference with Texas, in Texas the Hispanic population is poor, but in Miami, Hispanics are the ones that call the shots.

Miami Beach is just like Torremolinos or Benidorm, you can walk everywhere and there are hundreds of bars and attractions. You don't need a car to go to bars and places. The most similar place to a European setting in Miami. You also have the Brickell/Downtown area, you can walk in those areas and there are many shops, restaurants, etc.

In the other areas of Miami.....it's just like living in a very scattered East Croydon without any public transportation. You'll need a car for everything.

You won't need Spanish, you won't need more Spanish that the one you need in Palma de Mallorca.

Food is way cheaper than in London, nice Indian restaurants, fish and chips and plenty of English and Irish pubs with football.

Miami to London...no comparison. If you (as a Londoner) are coming here for 1) the weather and 2) more affordable housing, go for it. Otherwise, Miami isn't in London's league (only NY is). Miami is not a hughly multicultural city like London. It does not have the theaters, museums or the same class of shopping. It does not have anywhere near the sheer number of different scenes you'll find in London. Miami also has virtually no mass transit and few parks (none that even come close to Hyde Park or Richmond Park). People often talk about how great the nightlife here, but Londom's nightlife is vastly superior and generally less expensive and pretentious.

In fact, the only advantages Miami has over London would of course be beaches, weather, lower taxes and a lower cost of living (on average). Still, bear in mind that although the cost of living may be lower, you'll have to buy health insurance or pay for your own healthcare. You'll also need a car in Miami, whereas you can easily get buy without one in London (in fact, a car can be a liability there).

London DOES have better nightlife! It's a world city, like NY. By nightlife, I 'aint just talking clubs either. London has a million and one scenes, while Miami just has the clubs on South Beach. There's no Brixton Academy in Miami.

I have been to London many times and I went out a lot. There's pubs, clubs, bars, Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus. Miami does not have the same variety of nightlife as London, but it does have plenty of clubs (if that's your scene).

Yes, but nightlife in Miami is far cheaper - from three to four times cheaper - nicer, better weather and not packed by millions of tourists.

Those places you mention that you probably found in a guide, are just for tourists. If you visit Picadilly or "Lister" square, you'll only find bothersome tourists and immigrants.

The local Londoner resorts to pubs, many are closing down, or when they want a real party, they take a low budget flight to Barcelona, Mallorca, etc.

Funny, I went to 2 clubs in London and paid less than here in MIA. Also, they didn't water the drinks down like they do here.

You're obviously unhappy in London, but it's still a great city and provincial Miami isn't anywhere near being in London's league.

You went to 2 clubs in London and paid less (British Pounds) that in Miami (dollars)?
Where was that?
Not even the worst pub in Brixton is cheaper than Miami - 5 bucks a pint.
You should travel outside the U.S.
