Just realized I knew a couple of upper-middle class/middle class blacks in Miami. They all lived in North Miami Beach/Aventura but were generally 40+ with families already. I didn't really meet any young ones. They were also all Dominicans.

Telling me he was not black, and he had red hair as a baby, his ancestors were white crap and while driving the bus he was told by a white woman he was the N-word. When he told me I told him I guess you really know what you are now. My Haitian friend was the same way. Claimed he only dated white women but yet his wife was Haitian. Both groups of people had identity issues. I have more stories but it's truly sad how these people think of themselves. As far a black owned business I think we need to remember African Americans were in slavery for over 246 years. There were not previous business owners or business minded people. When America freed the slaves did they get reparations to maybe start business like these so called Jews? No! Someone people just not African American simply don't want to be business owners and rather work for someone else. You can't change 246 years of bondage in 148 years. We had segregation long after that. I'm not making excuses but African Americans have been through a lot through history and the traits have passed down. I can't speak for all blacks but I'm going to represent for myself being black.
Can't change 246 years of bondage in 148 years? Tell me why not. It takes 148 years to learn "hey, you can't kill people" or even basic economic theory (like you have to charge less than your competitor or offer more value if you intend to sell more than him/her)? Drug dealers can understand basic economics. It takes 148 years to learn to save money? Get a savings account? Invest wisely? Sorry, I'm not buying it. People with no knowledge of English, no skills and no money make it over here and do it, and we're from here...

Even during segregation, blacks were better off economically than we are now (but not socially). There's no excuse for a culture that glorifies crime, violence and ignorance. All that is new stuff. I'm black too and I don't use excuses if I fail. I've got libraries, schools and the internet at my disposal. I'm not waiting for the white man to give me a reparation for slavery because whether it is morally right or wrong, it is not going to happen. Period.

Black people can do anything that everyone else can do, we have to start doing it and put the ignorance down. With no safety, there will be no economic development. We've had black businesses, thriving black neighborhoods (KKK ended that), black pilots, scientists, millionaires (pre-rap music), etc. It's not cool to fail in school, not be able to speak English, have a felony before age 21 and start single-parent families. Sorry. And I'm a liberal who supports parts of economic socialism and I'm saying this.

I don't really care what these "we aren't black" blacks say or think. You aren't black? Great. Don't come to our civic organizations when the cops beat you.

Most of our people are happy with minimum wages, section 8, welfare and all of those other government handouts. I hate to be negative but it's true. You are right foreigners come here with nothing and that's because they have a dream or vision. They also do what's necessary (schooling/working 2-3 jobs) to make that dream come true. Some of our people have no desire to better themselves. Rap and Hip Hop exploits us. Both men and women. We don't want to open a book and read it. We expect people to tell us what's in the book or what they have read from the book. I truly believe if you want to hide something from us but it in a book. This is how people have manipulated history and religion. The truth is documented but no one cares to research. If you think blacks were better off economically during the segregation days? That's questionable. I agree we can do anything everyone else can do but it's up to us if we are going to do it. I hate when people associate wealthy blacks as athletes or rapper. We are not known for much other than those and it's shame. I think these college students should stop focusing on sports and focus on real professions. One that requires the use of your brain and not the other physical parts of your body. Our people has to want better but some want things to happen overnight this is way drug dealing is so big in our communities. You are clearly at a disadvantage when it comes to the law and punishments. It's clear and very obvious but some still take the risk. I definitely agree on the cops brutality part. Some people want to be black when we are doing good and when we are not they associate themselves with something else.

That isn't true at all. We couldn't even get into many professional roles then.

While now most blacks are middle class and not actually poor, back them most of us were poor/working class. We are much better of economically then 60+ years ago.

It's not true at all. That's a stereotype. Most black do work and most are living on a middle class wage. Of course the lowest common denominator is going to get the media attention.

I don't care about what you think. You don't know ***** about Caribbean-Americans, so don't try to generalize or draw conclusions. And what is this 148 years nonsense you people are talking about? They only people that were franchised in 1865 were white males

I have a lot of love for Caribbean people. I grew up with mostly Caribbean people back in NYC. With that said, SOME of them do move like they don't believe they are black. It is a certain type though, the stush ones generally.

People don't seem to understand the concept of CLASS. There is a certain class of black male/female in America that are low achievers. But, if you go to the same lower rungs in white america, Latin america and any other ethnic group in America and your going to get the same type of behavior. The difference is, its this lower class in America who create music and make it seem like this is acceptable or that all blacks are like that, or that your not "black enough" if you don't come from menial beginnings. Contrary to popular belief, not all black people struggled in this country. Not all blacks found their way to America as salves (even during slaves times you had free blacks who came to America. But again, you get a group of ignorant know nothings putting out "art" for popular consumption and people buy into that ignorant stereotype

Some do. I agree. Somtimes I speak with other Haitians, and I said something to the effect of "Yeah, our ancestors were from Africa" and some of them were like "not my ancestors, we're french, we're this, we're that, we're native-americans, etc" and it's like look at your dark-skin and nappy hair. Your ancestors are from Africa whether you like it or not. But Black-Americans have this same problem. They find out that they're like 1% Hispanic, they then become the most Hispanic-cultured person ever. Or if they're part Native-American they go to wearing all sorts of Native-American threads, beads, etc. It's like when Black find out that they are partly descended from another race or culture, they hurry and clamor to that other culture, whereas it's never usally the same vice-versa. It's like being part non-black is something to be desired.
