This is a topic that gets asked frequently on this forum by incoming tourists, thought it would be helpful to post a link to the article:

New bus route to connect MIA, South Beach - South Florida - MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/southflorida/story/1328946.html - broken link)

"Starting Dec. 13, a new bus route will connect Miami International Airport and South Beach -- a heavily traveled corridor used both by commuters and international tourists..."

A long-awaited route, for sure!

The article says the trip will cost $2.35 and will take about 30 minutes. There will be a stop at Earlington Heights Metrorail Station.

Sounds like a good move overall.

It's about time! I suspect tourists will actually use this new bus line.

Good, but can these people ever do anything right though? The Earlington Heights station stop is unnecessary, it seems like Miami Dade wants to make sure tourists see the hood first and get robbed along the way.

^^^The link explained the Earlington Heights Metrorail station stop was for travelers that want to go to Downtown they can transfer to the Metrorail there. This is great news!

if we had built the Metrorail Baylink extension this bus route wouldn't have been necessary but anyways at least people can now get to South Beach without having to pay a ton of money to a taxi. Does anybody know how much cabfare is from MIA to South Beach? I heard it was over $30.

So now that the county needs money, they figure away to connected the Airport and South Beach, so they can collect some money from the tourists. If they connect the Metrorail to the airport they would get a lot more riders and more money. Think of all the employees that could use it, local residents and tourists of course.

^ doggiebus are you aware that Metrorail is being expanded to the airport as we speak? Construction on the Earlington Heights to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) began this past summer and should be up and running in a couple of years.

Too bad the bus does not go far enough up Miami Beach. Personally, if I had my way MetroRail would connect all public colleges, stadiums, the beach, the airport, the seaport, park and ride free lots, and the current Kendall-ghetto line. The more tourists use transit the less polluting and unsightly taxicabs on the road in tourist areas. Now my ideal airport line would have run on the old FEC ROW from Dadeland to the airport on elevated tracks but the wealthy who live in the homes they overpaid for between Kendall and Miller Road would probably oppose the idea.
